Pride Blocks Growth

I believe one of the greatest reasons a leader stops growing and learning is because of pride. We need to remember that a little bit of pride can spoil the entire leader. A leader's pride has a potential to block growth which in turn blocks a leader's success (Or potential). This is because a leader who is growing and learning will always position themselves toward success. But once pride comes into a leader's life, growth and learning usually stops. The key for leader's is to maintain a humble life and always choose to grow and learn. This might be a challenge because of a leader's title or position. But the key is to focus on being humble. This comes with a daily choice for leader's to stay humble and growth driven.

How do you stay humble?

  1. There is no doubt that I agree with this. I am the poster child for pride blocking growth. Only when God brought me to my knees did I see what I called "being sure of myself and what I do" as plain and simple pride. "God, forgive me for my arrogance." How? God has His ways of bringing me back to earth. I also pray for humility and that God will always remind me when I am getting a little high on my horse. good thought Dan.

  2. I'm with Bill as the poster child for pride blocking growth. I try and serve others because as servants we cannot try and be more than our Master and i believe wholeheartedly that leaders are better leaders when they lead with a servant's heart.

I also surround myself with close friends who challenge me; if they see traits that aren't desirable in a woman of God, they'll be quick to call me out on it. "Iron sharpens iron" is a reference I just learned, but I definitely am blessed to have friends who keep me sharp.

    Great thoughts, Dan.

  3. I agree with Nikki, it is through a servant's heart and a strong circle of friends that we stay humble as leaders. God also tends to have someone or something as a 'thorn in our side' that reminds us that we are dependent on His power and ability in our lives.

  4. Great thoughts guys. I think we all have struggled(or still struggle with pride)I know I do. But it's through being a servant, people holding us accountable, and daily humbling our self before God, that we can break pride. Great discussion. Thank you for all your valuable thoughts.
